How to Become an Information Security Officer

All governmental, non-profit, and private enterprises that use computers to process and to store their important data certainly rely on an information security officer to keep those data safe and secured. Those enterprises certainly have competitors that always try to steal or destroy those data. An information security officer is recruited to prevent such mischievous actions from occurring and to equip those data with reliable security protection that can call off all attacks and breaches done by outsiders. If you are interested in pursuing a career as an information security staff, you can start your effort by entering any information security colleges and trying to earn master’s degree in information security.

When you enter information security program in a college or a university, there are several factors that you should take into consideration. Firstly, make sure you choose a university that is designated by the NSA (National Security Agency) and the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Those two agencies deal with homeland security and counter-terrorism affairs in this nation. Only educational institutions designated by both of them are considered reputable. Secondly, you should decide whether to choose management specialization or technical specialization. If you choose the former, you will be trained to become a skillful information security manager and administrator whose primary assignment is to lay out objectives and policies of an information security system. If you choose the latter, on the other hand, your study will focus more on technical assignments, such as keeping away hackers and establishing secure programming principles. Thirdly, make sure that the courses that you take meet the national standards of the Committee on National Security Systems.

Masters in information security are well needed in this era of computerization. Therefore, becoming one of them is always considered a worthwhile effort that you can attempt to do.
