How to Become a BCBA

One of the most prestigious careers that a student of psychology can pursue is BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). In brief, the primary duty of a BCBA is to study human behavior and to try to improve it. However, BCBA job is actually not that simple because there are intricate stages that a BCBA has to get through in order to accomplish her duty. Those stages start with data collection. When a BCBA has to deal with a new client, she certainly has to scrutinize her client’s personal information comprehensively. She needs to interview her client and to collect data that she considers important for the development of her analysis. After collecting necessary data, she has to plan strategic actions to change her client’s behavior. Those strategies are then proposed to her client so that the latter can also know everything that needs to be done. The implementation of those strategies is the next and the most important stage of her duty. During this stage, collection of data is important so that she can assess whether or not her strategies work. The last stage of her duty is assessing and evaluating her implemented strategies and deducting important points that she can use as reference to plan her client’s behavioral improvement.

Because the duty carried out by a BCBA is very complex, only students who have accomplished bcba online programs are qualified to become BCBAs. There are two primary requirements that they have to meet in order to be qualified to take a BCBA certification program: firstly, they have to earn at least master’s degree and secondly, they have to have at least 1,500 hours of experience of working in the field of behavioral analysis under the supervision of a BCBA.
